The first of the lectures given to Stanford University students who took CS193p, Developing Applications for iOS using SwiftUI, during Spring quarter of 2020.

Paul Hegarty covers the logistics of the course and then dives right into creating an iOS application (a card-matching game called Memorize). The Xcode development environment is used to demonstrate the basics of SwiftUI’s declarative interface for composing user-interfaces.

Note that this is not an active, on-line course. It is a release of lecture videos that were already given to Stanford students as part of its normal curriculum.

Historic aerial footage of Philadelphia on April 5, 2020, like it’s never been seen before – during a quarantine shelter in place order during the COVID-19 outbreak. The absence of people and traffic give the city a surreal, eerie feeling. A big shout-out to the medical community on the front lines battling this pandemic. Thank you for your work! Stay safe everyone!

Scenes include: Ben Franklin Bridge, Market Street, Logan Circle, Independence Hall, Free Library, Philadelphia City Hall, Ben Franklin Parkway and Philadelphia Museum of Art, Penn’s Landing, Vine Street, North Broad Street, Christ Church, and more.

Special thank you to @Jacob Christensen of JKCCine for his masterful editing of this video! Look him up for your videography needs.

Finally, in case you’re concerned… all necessary FAA permissions were obtained and extreme social distancing was practiced during these flights. The airspace above Independence Hall is “geo-fenced” (the drone is unable to fly into that area), however the camera’s zoom lens helps to make objects appear closer than they are in reality.

Bach’s G major prelude has captivated cellists and music lovers for years. Cellist Alisa Weilerstein deconstructs it.

Bach’s six cello suites are considered a rite of passage for cellists. They’re masterpieces of classical music, and the prelude in G major — the first movement of the suites — is perhaps the best example of Bach’s power as a composer. In it, he’s able to achieve rich and complex harmonic movements with just a four-stringed instrument, while using the very basic tenets of music composition. Those basic tenets are what Alisa Weilerstein, a renowned cellist and McArthur fellow, helps us understand.

A previous version of this video mislabeled a C sharp as a C natural. We also removed a simplified chord visual that mislabeled a C natural as a C sharp.

*******************

Hi, I am going to share the entire Tai Chi for Rehabilitation program free to help you improve immunity and relieve stress. Let me tell you why and how. The world is changed now with Covid-19, the present measure of social distancing and self-separation aims to slow down the spread of this virus. But experts are saying it will still spread. At this time, it is very important to proactively build our inner strength so that you have a better chance. Be healthy and improve your immunity. The immune system is like an army within our bodies that fights against germs and cancer cells quietly every day to keep us safe and well. Covid 19 affects people with lower immunity much more severely. Tai chi has been proven by medical studies to improve immunity. Here is something you can do now to be healthier for the future, as well as learning something new and enjoyable. And same for your friends too.

I am now home in Sydney self-separating. I love interacting with people, this is lonely. We human are by nature social beings. Social distancing would cause more stress, which in turn lowers immunity more.

My heart goes out to all people who suffer from this condition, and for the countless millions of people being affected in so many ways, with your job, finance, and planned events, and not able to conduct or attend your tai chi classes.

I choose the Tai Chi for Rehabilitation program because it is very easy to learn. The lessons are designed as though you are working with me in my class, many people have gained health benefits from it. Like my friend Richard Link who learned it lying down in the intensive care bed, it helped him to recover and attended my annual workshop in Sydney. All you have to do is imagine you are learning from me in a private lesson. Be sure follow my instructions, to practice until you are comfortable with any part of the movements before you move on.

There are many Tai Chi for Health Institute board certified instructors around the world, you can find them in our website, contact them for help. They might be able to guide and work with you through internet with this or other programs.

Lesson one will follow this message soon, I will come back every three days with the next lesson. Please assign a regular time to practice it regularly. You could be like Richard, visualise doing the program. Then the next lessons would be more enjoyable. Please note, tai chi does not just improve your immunity, and reduce your stress, it also improves almost all aspects of health. Over 500 medical studies have shown that. This means it would give you a better chance even if there are mutation or other new viruses coming in future. Feel free to share this with your friends. Please note after each lesson I will end with a beautiful scenery and the energy of me practicing tai chi there.

Lastly, if you like other lessons, you can find all first lessons of my online lessons or instructional DVDs free on Youtube. Search my name Dr Paul Lam and tai chi, you will find these free lessons.
