Food Log

Breakfast was a bowl of cold cereal, a glass of orange juice and a cup of coffee. I weighed 156 pounds.

Around noon I had a bottle of Saranac Pale Ale and a hand full of peanuts.

Dinner was very rustic — and delicious. A pair of country ribs done in the style of Alton Brown (★★★★☆), braised baby turnips and garlic scapes, a wilted lettuce salad, and a bottle of Saranac Pale Ale.

Food Log

Breakfast was a bowl of cold cereal, a glass of orange juice and a cup of coffee. I weighed 158 pounds.

Gretchen and I went to a work day at the CSA today. We weeded the rhubarb, chard, and the fennel. Afterwards, we had a lunch of tossed salad with raspberry vinaigrette, asparagus rice pilaf, whole wheat bread with humus, a lemon cake with strawberry sauce, and a cup of ginger shrub to drink. The CSA was shutting down one of its strawberry patches so after lunch we took a few minutes to make a final sweep through it and got two quarts for jam. Yesterday I bought two more quarts from an Amish stand at the State College Farmer’s Market that we also made into jam today. After we got home we had a bottle of Saranac Pale Ale.

Photograph of one of the 20 pints of strawberry jam we made today.

Dinner was a salad with roast chicken and Balsamic Vinaigrette, a slice of colonial bread with a sample of our fresh strawberry jam, and a bottle of Saranac Pale Ale.

Workout Log

I went to workout at the MBNA Fitness Center again today. I think I have decided to stop doing the Hoist Calf Raise. The Hoist puts the weight on your shoulders, which I discovered tonight compresses you spine — I hope I did not hurt myself. The Nautilus Calf Raise (they have one in the Athletic Weight Room in Rec Hall) hangs the weight off of a belt you wear around your waist — much safer. Anyway, I do not think the workout will suffer too much for skipping it. So here is what I ended up with tonight.

  1. 5 minute warm-up on the treadmill at 4.5 mph
  2. 8 repetitions at 125 pounds on the Nautilus Nitro Compound Row
  3. 11 repetitions at 60 pounds on the Nautilus Nitro Overhead Press
  4. 8 repetitions at 75 pounds on the Nautilus Nitro Lateral Raise
  5. 8 repetitions at 125 pounds on the Nautilus Nitro Lower Back
  6. 12¹ repetitions at 85 pounds on the Nautilus Nitro Abdominal
  7. 10 repetitions at 55 pounds on the Nautilus Nitro Biceps Curl
  8. 12¹ repetitions at 40 pounds on the Nautilus Nitro Triceps Extension
  9. 9 repetitions at 5 on the Hoist Prone Leg Curl
  10. 12¹ repetitions at 95 pounds on the Nautilus Nitro Leg Extension
  11. 11 repetitions at 85 pounds on the Nautilus Nitro Super Pullover
  12. 8 repetitions at 135 pounds on the Nautilus Combo Lat Pulldown
  13. 12¹ repetitions at 70 pounds on the Nautilus Nitro Vertical Chest
  14. 10 repetitions at 65 pounds on the Nautilus Nitro Incline Press
  15. 12¹ repetitions at 85 pounds on the Nautilus Nitro Seated Dip

Los Angeles Times – Horoscopes

This comes to us via Earthly Delights:

Astrological questions: “I’m a chef, and I was just wondering if there are any food likes and dislikes that tend to go with each sign?”

Each sign is drawn to certain favorites because of body-chemistry needs or because the food represents a style or feeling the sign is naturally drawn to…

Virgo: waffles, wrap-style sandwiches, lobster, spinach dip, vegetable juice. [Jillson]

Food Log

Breakfast was a bowl of cold cereal with banana slices and two cups of coffee. I weighed 158 pounds. My weight does not reflect any gain, but I am feeling a little tight in my clothes. I do not know what is going on there.

I had a cup of green tea at the office.

I had to go check out a new equipment closet in the Rider II building today. I looked at the weather and it looked like a storm front was coming and might reach us by lunch, so I decided to take my walk early and combine it with work. Conveniently, that building is on the 4⅜ mile town loop. On the way back, I stopped at Otto’s Cafe again and got a Chicken Caesar Salad. I made it back just as the rain started.

For dinner, Gretchen made hot asparagus with pasta with strawberry pie for dessert (along with a hand full of peanuts).
